ENHANCING YOUR SEXUAL RELATIONSHIP

WHY Would you and your partner like to improve your sex life?

 WHO/WHAT Couples with low/no sexual desire or frequency, and/or desire discrepancy (in which one partner is more interested in sex than the other) who are interested in enhancing their sexual relationship and ready to embark on a journey to enhance their sexual experiences and relationships.  The process will involve group therapy over 16 hours. Limit of 6 couples/group.

The content of the group is based on the work of the Optimal Sexual Experiences Research Team of the University of Ottawa, including elements and facilitating factors of optimal sexual experiences as well as research on group couples therapy. The groups are part of a research project studying the effectiveness of group therapy in enhancing sexual relationships. Your participation in the research project (which is optional) consists of completing questionnaires.
 
WHEN Dates to be determined by participants, 16 hours over a period of 8 weeks. Initial assessment will help you to determine whether these groups are right for you.

GROUP THERAPISTS 

Mary Jane Millar MSW, RSW and Diana Melnick, MA, RP

Mary Jane Millar (she/her) MSW, RSW is an Emotionally Focused Therapist who has worked with couples and families for over 20 years.  She completed her graduate degree in International Social Work and her research focused on Indigenous Ways of Knowing.  She specializes in working with first responders including veterans and clients who have experienced intergenerational trauma.  Mary Jane is a registered member of OAMHP, The Ontario College of Social Work and is a Certified Sex Therapist.  Mary Jane practices from an anti-oppressive, sex positive framework in order to create an inclusive therapy space for intervention and treatment.

Diana Melnick (she/her) MA, is a Registered Psychotherapist and clinical director of Toronto Intimacy Counselling, a multidisciplinary clinic specializing in treating sexual function in a religiously and culturally sensitive manner. Diana is an Emotionally Focused therapist, combining EFT and CBT to successfully treat a range of sexual issues including pain, desire discrepancy, inability to orgasm, erectile dysfunction, and aversion/fear of intimacy. She always uses a trauma-informed lens, creating a safe, non-judgmental, and inclusive space for her diverse clientele. Over the past decade, she has presented a variety of seminars and workshops to clinicians, therapists, educators, clergy members, and international audiences on an array of topics covering sexual health and sexual function throughout various life stages. Prior to the pandemic, she was an executive member of the Sexual Health Network of Ontario, a government organization that brought together service providers working in and around sexual health for networking and education. She is currently a member of the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario and Associate Member of BESTCO.

Attendance in this group requires a commitment to homeplay with your partner. You are free to withdraw from the research and/or the groups at any time.
